When a court-appointed official assigned to Madonna’s adoption case was denied permission to travel to Britain her case hit something of a brick wall.
Minister of Women and Child Developement Kate Kainja stopped Penstone Kilembe from making the trip which was to assess the suitability of Madonna and Guy Ritchie as the young child’s potential parents.
Adoption in Malawi does not become set in concrete until a judicial review after a year and a half. The rights groups are asking the court in this case to withhold final approval on the provision that Malawian law does not permit international adoptions.
Kilembe confirmed the minister had stopped him making the trip.
Last October when David Banda was 13 months old Madonna was given custody of the boy, this was after his father had placed him in an orphanage after struggling to support him after his wife had died.
