Sponsored Post - Truck Racks

March 31st, 2007 · Comments Off

When looking for a Truck Rack for your vehicle there are a couple of considerations to think about.

Price
You have a budget to work from so this is going to limit your range of choices first up. Racks can range from about $30 right up to over $1000 for some of the more Commercial Racks

Usage
Normally there will be a specific task that your Racks will be used for - My advice is simple, buy the best Truck Rack that you can afford that will do the job. A decent Truck Rack can last a long time, so there is no point in just buying the cheapest.

The SEO Experiment Continues - Quest for the Golden Search Ranking

March 30th, 2007 · No Comments

It is been approximately a week since our optimization was carried out on our Australian Job Search website. You can catch up with the previous article first to see how we got to today’s status if you like

Using KeyWord Tools to target Your SEO

Now we are still not appearing anywhere in the search results for the Words “Job Search” however we are now appearing for the words “Job Search Aussie” (34) and “Job Search Australia” (94)

I was thinking recently that it would be great if there was a place where like minded SEO wannabes could get together and try different links on their sites. For example if you placed a link to my Job Search site exactly how I wanted it on your Page Ranked 4 page I would be happy to reciprocate on one of my sites.

If this is something you are interested please drop me a comment and maybe we can set something going. Meantime we will continue to monitor the performance of our keywords, and will try to link out to them from wherever it is possible.

Using KeyWord Tools to target Your SEO

March 21st, 2007 · 3 Comments

When you are optimizing your site for keywords, how do you know which keywords to use? Well this is where the overture keyword tool comes into play.

For this example we are going to use our Australian Jobhunters site as a Guinea Pig, it is starting to show up reasonably well on Google, however there are no real “Killer” key word sites that are bring punters in.

The overture keyword tool shows you a list of phrases related to a word that you have typed in and how popular each keyword was over the last month. In this case we have typed in Jobs and we can see that in February this is the count.

129998 Â job search

If our site can become high up in the list for these key words we are going to be doing pretty well, however we are competing against some big punters which you can see when this Google search is done!

The keywords in our Job Hunters website are not really optimized for Job Search so with a bit of luck we will be able to improve our current ranking. We can track our ranking by using the fantastic tool provided by DigitalPoint, that tracks your rankings of keywords over time. You will see we are not even ranked for the words Job Search!

aussie Job Hunters

Now that we know what we are trying to target and we can track our results we need to set up incorporating these key words in our site, also if we can get any links to this site we want to make the anchor text “Job Search” as this will help. By adding these links via our other sites we can achieve this on a small scale.

The alterations have been made to our static pages, and the content uploaded, now we await a visit from Google’s Spiders, and over the weeks to come we will be checking the results on a regular basis.

10 Rules a Blogger Down Under Should Abide By

March 18th, 2007 · No Comments

Often it is hard to know what is the right thing to do, or what not to do in the world of blogging. Here at the Sir Blogger Blog we have put together 10 Rules for Bloggers down under.

1. Don’t lie, trick or try and deceive your readers into clicking or signing up for anything - if it is an affiliate link mark it as so, or at least mention it in your post.

2. Announce a sponsored post as a sponsored post. Unless you would have written about it anyway. If the sponsored post requires that you do not say this, don’t do it. (Its like selling your soul)

3. Give back to the community. Remember when you started out how bigger and better sites did you the favour of linking to you, do the same within reason of course. (i.e if they only have a couple of posts its a good incentive to promise them a link if they work on their content)

4. Be open - use your name and your picture. Think of the best bloggers out there, everyone knows their name and what they look like - if you want to play with the big boys, you need to follow their example.

5. Post regularly, at least 2 or 3 times a week. Readers will soon give up on a blog that is irregularly updated. We will however give you a week off at Christmas! Otherwise get in a guest blogger!

6. You shall not steal. If you are intent on borrowing someone else’s idea or text, make sure you link back to them and preferably ask their permission first of all. Stealing content from other blogs is the lowest form of low, so don’t do it OK!

7. Treat your fellow Bloggers with respect. You will find that if you do this, and take the time out to learn and participate in your fellow bloggers sites, it will return to you tenfold.

8. Learn from your mistakes. If you make a post and get flamed for it you are probably upsetting someone. Change your tact. If somethings not working change it. If it is working enhance it and keep it.

9. Honour your family. Blogging is cool however it is also time consuming. Remember at the end of the day your family is more important so make sure that you spend time with them and remind yourself of that everyday - without the support of your family you are nothing.

10. Be true to yourself. If its not working give it away. There is nothing worse than slaving away for less than minimum wage if its not really performing for you. Don’t be afraid to say enough is enough. If you don’t enjoy it, stop doing it.

I’ve got a Blog Down Under…

March 12th, 2007 · 1 Comment

For a while now I have been trying to figure out a niche topic for this blog, and I think I have finally got there. For several years I have had an interest in making money online and although I am far from a dot com millionaire it has been possible to make a few dollars here and there from my online efforts - what is a little different from most sites like this is that this has all be done from my base in Auckland NZ.

The problem is that in the Blogosphere you tend to become lost amongst all the other money making sites out there and it is easy to lose focus from your core subject - so I have decided to specialize on the Australia and New Zealand Blogging and Online opportunities that are available to us. We will concentrate on Blogs from this side of the world - as well as affiliate programs that are available to us. Blogging is new to a lot of Kiwis and Australians so this site will help us all to catch up with the rest of the Online World.

If you have a blog and are from NZ or Australia not only do we want to exchange links you - we would like to review your site and see what it can offer other Bloggers from our side of the world. We are only interested in Blogs that have been going for 3 months or more (means you have stickability). To contact us please leave a comment.

Is it ok to write Sponsored Posts?

March 11th, 2007 · No Comments

There is a lot of debate about this subject… alot of bloggers are dead set against bloggers that write sponsored posts, and then there are others that don’t seem to mind one way or another.

Why do Bloggers do Sponsored Posts?
Well to answer a simple question with a simple answer its for the money. Most Bloggers do sponsored Posts so that they can create some sort of return from their Blog. This may pay for hosting of the site, a bit of development to the blog or any other reason.

Do they believe in the Product they are writing about?
This is a good question and it may be the case that yes they do, or most bloggers realize that they can even write a negative review (if it is warranted) and still get paid for it. So the chances are that the blogger is stating the facts as he/she knows it.

What if the readers don’t like it?
This is a hard question I guess its a bit like what if viewers don’t like a particular advert on T.V or a movie maybe. The best course of action if you are offended by a sponsored post is not to read it… yep its as simple as that really!

Will Sponsored Posts ruin my Blog?
Well the answer to this is yes or no, depending on whether you let it or not. Sponsored Posts have been around for a long time and if you handle them in a mature and honest way there is no way that they should affect your blog in a negative way - however you may want to obey the following five ways of sponsored post bliss…

  1. Always make it obvious to your readers that a sponsored post is a sponsored post.
  2. Write a “real” article straight after the sponsored post so that a visitor to your site is greeted with a real article.
  3. Try to keep sponsored posts in line with the topic of your blog.
  4. Don’t boast about the money you make from sponsored posts on your site.
  5. Don’t sell yourself too cheap - only write for high paying Posts.

As you can see there are fors and againsts depending on what kind of person you are and how forgiving your readers are - they are going to be turned off your site quickly if all there is every time they visit is a bunch of sponsored posts - however as long as you include other good quality articles I doubt any reasonable person would hold it against you.

How to find out the HTML Colors of a Web Page

March 8th, 2007 · 1 Comment

You may find that when trying to find the background colors of your website that especially if the site is using CSS or similar that it is not always simple to easily find the HTML code for the Color that you are trying to match.

One solution is to use the FireFox ColorZilla Addin, this is an easy to install plugin to Firefox that once installed enables you to right click on an area of your web page and choose Eyedropper, then by hovering the target over a section of Color the exact hexadecimal value is shown.

Certainly something that can save hours of frustration when trying to blend your Google AdSense adverts into your templates!

Improving Your Google AdSense Earnings by Filtering out Low Paying Advertisers

March 6th, 2007 · No Comments

To improve the quality of the Google AdSense Adverts that you are displaying on your Blog or Site, there is a website that you can register with that will automatically generate a list of low paying advertisers to filter out (relevant to the content of your site).

The site is called Ads Black List and is very user friendly. It is just a matter of registering, logging in and providing the URL of your main site. It automatically picks up the title and key words from your site and once this is done you can easily generate a list of URLs that you will be able to filter from withing your Google AdSense set up.

To set up this filtering withing AdSense log in to your account. Click on AdSense Setup, then competitive Ad filter and simply paste in the 200 or so URL’s that have been generated for you.

You may be wondering what Google think of all this, and so was I when I initially investigated it. The fact is Google have no problems with you using the competitive ad filter - you are allowed to filter your adverts.

Most of the sites end up being filtered out because they are MFA’s (Made for AdSense) with little or no content. An MFA hopes by paying a low amount per click they can lure an unsuspecting visitor to their site, then hopefully collect a high amount on an outgoing click. Not the best way to build a reputable Online Empire in our book.

Good luck with the Black List!

5 Key Aspects of a Website that Works

March 4th, 2007 · No Comments

How often do you visit a website that is so full of flash intros and graphics that it makes it difficult to find what you came to the site for in the first place?

Unfortunately with the way the internet is going, this seems to becoming more and more the norm. Companies spend thousands of dollars creating a website that looks great, however sometimes overlook some of the more basic mechanics of a site.

What we need to be aware of is that there is a growing market of internet users that are not as web savy as those of us that have been introduced to the internet at a young age. This generation of web users that have recently begun to use the internet (Â more because they have to now, than by choice) are going to use sites that have a clear purpose, simple navigation and do what they promise with a minimum of stress involved.

Links are Blue and Underlined

I am not sure if many of you remember this, because links seem to be morphing into all kinds of colours, and formats. However this can be a key component of an easy to navigate site. Look at the most popular sites in the world. www.google.com, and www.ebay.com are good examples of this. Do you think these guys don’t know what works? When catering to a wide audience it is the simple things that count, don’t confuse your visitors a link is a link and its blue and underlined.

Not everyone has Broadband

The excuse nowadays for making a flash front page that takes ten minutes to load with a modem is that nearly everyone has broadband. Well it may be the case that more and more people do have broadband, but it is pointless pissing off potential visitors or customers to your site based on that assumption. A fast loading site has always been important and the less fancy graphics and flash movies that are playing the better.

Respond to Contact Messages

If someone sends you a message via a contact us page on your site, respond to them (promptly!) otherwise don’t have a contact us page on your site - this would save everyone a lot of grief. Nowadays I am almost surprised if I get a response to a query that I make via a website.

Keep Forms Simple

Only ask for the bare requirements in any signup forms that your site has, otherwise you are just going to scare people off because many of them (myself included) can’t be bothered spending 20 minutes registering to be able to login in to your site. Email , Password and lets go. Get the other info off them later.

Help Files - FAQ?

Some people believe it or not don’t now what FAQs means, so just call it help! once again I direct you to www.ebay.com for an example of an extremely popular website that caters to a wide profile of web users.
